Cedar Gate Farm is a fifteen-acre equine and poultry farm located at 102 and 104 Parks Road in the Beacon Hill section of Denville. It was established in 1903 by Anna H. and Frederick E. Parks. Mr. Parks ran it as primarily a diary farm until his death 1938.
There is a story that Mr. Parks used to drop a cedar gate across the road that bears his name and that hence came the name Cedar Gate Farm.
The present owners, Mary H. Rodda and her brother William C. Rodda, are great-grandchildren of Anna and Frederick Parks.
Bill does most of the current farming and is most ably assisted by his wife, Patricia A. McKay.
The equine part of the farm consists of Three pleasure horses (see separate section of this site) that are owned and ridden by Pat and Bill (with an occasional private lesson).
The poultry part of the farm is one hundred fifty to two hundred chickens whose eggs are sold both wholesale and retail (see separate section of this site).
Besides the land, animals and people, the farm has two residences (the central part of the farmhouse dates to 1890), a beautiful large red barn (about 1915), a stable/henhouse, a water system including a fresh-water spring and reservoir, a small guesthouse and a pond.
